Fire Stick owners are being alerted to the risk of a hefty £1,000 fine due to a common oversight. Netflix is gearing up to welcome WWE content this week, with Monday Night Raw set to stream on the platform.
However, fans are cautioned about live content access requirements. A TV Licence is mandatory for any live broadcast, and failure to secure one could lead to a £1,000 penalty.
Back in November, TV Licensing clarified the regulations to The Sun, particularly ahead of the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight on Netflix. “A TV Licence is needed to watch live content on streaming services, watch or record a TV programme on any channel and when using BBC iPlayer,” a spokesperson explained.
They added that further details can be found on the TV Licensing website or by contacting their customer service team for assistance. The current cost of a TV Licence stands at £169.50, and it’s also required if you’re recording live TV to view later.
On-demand viewing generally doesn’t need a licence, except for BBC iPlayer, according to TV Licensing, reports Birmingham Live.
In related news, wrestling icon Hulk Hogan is reportedly making a comeback to WWE during tonight’s Netflix debut of Monday Night Raw. This marks Hogan’s first live WWE TV appearance since January 2023, where he kicked off Raw is XXX alongside Jimmy Hart.
His last WWE feature was in January 2024, in a recorded segment celebrating 40 years of Hulkamania. Additionally, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has confirmed his participation in tonight’s show.
He declared: “I’ll come back home to @wwe tomorrow night as we make history on @netflix and begin a new and exciting era. Tomorrow night is dedicated to my grandfather, the High Chief Peter Maivia, my grandmother, Lia Maivia and my dad, Rocky “Soulman” Johnson and my ancestors who have ALL paved the way.”
