A police chase on a main Black Country street led to the road being closed and buses diverted. The incident took place on the A4038 Walsall Road on the Darlaston/Wednesbury border, near the junction with Bentley Mill Way at around 2.45pm.
A driver failed to stop for police and crashed his car into a number of other vehicles on the road. It was then shut between Station Street and Bentley Mill Way causing ‘major disruption’ according to Transport for West Midlands roads X feed.
Traffic information service, Inrix, reported: “The A4038 Walsall Road in both directions blocked, queueing traffic due to accident between the petrol station and the railway bridge. Congestion to surrounding routes including Heath Road, Park Lane and Axletree Way through Gallagher Shopping Park as traffic seeks an alternative.”

National Express West Midlands confirmed it had to divert its number 34, 37 and 39 bus services via Bescot Road, Axletree Way and Park Lane. But traffic in the area has now eased.
A man was arrested and taken to hospital to be checked over. A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “A collision occurred near the junction of Walsall Road and Bentley Mill Way at around 2.45pm on Monday (December 30).
“A car, which had failed to stop for police, was involved in a collision with a number of other vehicles. No-one was seriously injured. A man was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment. He will be questioned in due course.”
Both West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Midlands Fire Service said they were not called to the incident.
