Millions of Sky TV customers warned over big shake-up ‘starting today’

Sky TV customers have been warned after four channels disappeared in a shake-up. Four TV channels are set to disappear from Sky today, as the Christmas season finally comes to a close, the tech provider and entertainment giant has said.

An additional four premium Sky channels, including Sky Drama and Sky Cinema Comedy, have also switched numbers. Sky has retired four Christmas channels: GREAT! xmas (Satellite 319) renames to GREAT! romance and GREAT! xmas HD (Glass 317) renames to GREAT! romance HD.

GREAT! xmas+1 (320) renames to G! romance+1 and That’s Christmas (Satellite 183) renames to That’s TV 3. In other news, Movies24 and Movies24+ became Christmas24 and Christmas24+ respectively at the end of last year, showing festive movies.

But from Monday (January 6) they’ll both be back to the Movies 24 brand. As part of the post Christmas shake up, other changes will affect those who use Sky Glass and Sky Q, as Sky Drama moves from 310 to 302, while Sky Hits fills 303.

Sky Cinema Comedy moves to 308 and then Sky Best Of 2024 goes to 302. GREAT! Christmas channels relaunch every year, and landed on TV boxes from September last year, in a move which sparked fury and bafflement from viewers who complained it is “too soon”.

“Hold on we haven’t passed Halloween yet for Christmas,” one person wrote on X. A second typed: “I don’t mind, I can watch Christmas films anytime of year, I don’t see why people think they should only be watched at Christmas.

“Of course though, the obvious answer is if you think it’s too early don’t watch, simples!” This year, the channel will return to screens on September 5 – a whole 110 days before the big day itself.

It marked the earliest arrival for the festive channels yet.
