Lancashire is facing further disruption today after temperatures plummeted again overnight leaving roads and schools closed.
The region is currently under a yellow Met Office weather warning for ice until 12pm while an amber cold weather health alert is also in force. Forecasters warn that icy stretches will lead to ‘some impacts to transport’ while some areas will also see patches of fog this morning.
Lancashire Police said they were alerted to ‘numerous reports of bad road conditions’ due to black ice in the Burnley and Rossendale areas last night. Motorists were warned: “If you must travel then proceed with caution.”
Nearly 20 schools have been closed across the region, including more than a dozen in Pendle, three in Pendle, two in Accrington and one in South Ribble. It comes after around 70 schools were closed across the region on Tuesday with heavy snow falling just days after the New Year’s floods.
