Thomas Dures has been charged with the murder of Matthew Daulby

A man who was arrested in Greece in connection with the murder of a teenager in Ormskirk has been charged following his extradition to the UK. Thomas Dures was arrested in Greece in connection with the murder of Matthew Daulby on December 2, 2024.

Lancashire Police today confirmed to the ECHO that Dures has been charged with murder after he arrived back in the UK yesterday, January 7. Mr Daulby, 19, was stabbed in the chest and hit with a rock during a mass brawl on Railway Road in the early hours of the morning on 29 July, 2023. Henry Houghton was found guilty of murder following a trial in March this year.

A post mortem examination found that Matthew’s cause of death was a stab wound. Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, 21-year-old Thomas Dures, of Whalley Drive, Aughton, was charged last night, January 7, with the murder of Matthew. He has been remanded into custody to appear over video link at Preston Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, January 9.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “We have charged a man with the murder of Matthew Daulby in Ormskirk. Our officers attended Railway Road at 12.05am on July 29, 2023, to reports of an ongoing disturbance.

“Nineteen-year-old Matthew was found a short distance away with stab injuries. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, Matthew sadly died later in hospital. Our thoughts remain with Matthew’s loved ones who continue to be supported by specially-trained officers.

“A post mortem examination established that the cause of Matthew’s death was a stab wound. Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, 21-year-old Thomas Dures, of Whalley Drive, Aughton, was last night (7 January 2025) been charged with Matthew’s murder.

“He has been remanded into custody to appear over video link at Preston Magistrates Court tomorrow. Please can we remind you that proceedings are now active and we would ask people to refrain from commenting or speculating on what remains an ongoing investigation.”
