British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON, Octopus customers warned ignoring letter will cost them £150

British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus customers who ignore a crucial letter will miss out on a free £150. Energy customers are being warned not to ignore an important letter as they risk missing out on crucial bill support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

From October, millions of households began receiving the £150 Warm Home Discount, with British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus among the energy suppliers signed up the initiative from the DWP. Customers with older, traditional prepayment meters that require a key or card for top-ups cannot receive the discount directly.

Instead, they are issued vouchers to redeem at their local top-up point. The Post Office is sending out letters containing the discount, and Kevin Elson, postmaster at Bache Post Office said: “We know many people are worried about the cost of their energy bills as the colder weather starts to set in.

“£150 can make a big difference, especially to people who are on pay-as-you-go meter. That’s why postmasters, like me, and our teams stand ready to help and ensure that people can easily redeem their vouchers.” Kevin added: “If the voucher is lost or expires, households can contact their supplier to have it reissued.”

It is important to redeem the voucher soon after receiving it as they do expire, some in as little as 30 days. If the voucher is lost or expires, households can contact their supplier to have it reissued. In Scotland, a separate application process is required, and anyone who believes they may be eligible should contact their energy supplier directly.

The Warm Home Discount Helpline number is 0800 030 9322 to provide assistance and help customers who have received a letter regarding their eligibility. Anyone unsure about their eligibility should visit the government website to confirm if they qualify for the scheme.
