A man has died following a two-car crash in Staffordshire this morning (Wednesday, January 8). Paramedics were called to the junction of Sutton Road and Drayton Lane just before 7am.
They arrived to find a patient receiving CPR at the scene and immediately took over. However, despite everyone’s best efforts ,the man died at the scene.
A second man was hurt in the crash and taken to Good Hope Hospital with non-serious injuries. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said that they sent three ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.

They added: “On arrival, crews found a man in a critical condition receiving CPR. Ambulance staff immediately took over to administer advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.
“The driver of the second car, a man, was treated by medics for injuries not believed to be serious before he was conveyed to Good Hope Hospital.”
Staffordshire Police shared a picture of the road following the crash which showed investigators at the scene. They wrote at 9.43am: “@staffs_ciu currently at an incident on A453 Sutton Road, Drayton Bassett. Road closures in place. Please follow the diversions and allow extra time for your journey.”
At time of writing, the road remains closed. Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: “A453 in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident between George Avenue (Fazeley) and A38 (Bassetts Pole Island, Sutton Coldfield ). Closure has been extended.”
