Piers Morgan leaving News UK to grow ‘Uncensored’ YouTube channel

Piers Morgan is set to part ways with News UK, revealing plans to enlarge his Uncensored YouTube channel. The former TV presenter came back to News UK in 2022, signing a three-year deal that had him at the helm of programmes on the now-defunct TalkTV and penning columns for The Sun and New York Post.

Now through his company Wake Up Productions, Piers will gain control over the Uncensored media brand and its significant YouTube presence, boasting 3.6 million subscribers. He’s signed a fresh four-year revenue-sharing arrangement with Rupert Murdoch’s media empire.

Speaking with Sky News, Piers said: “I have had a great time working back at News and am delighted that we will continue to be partners. Owning the brand allows my team and I the freedom to focus exclusively on building Uncensored into a standalone business, editorially and commercially, and in time, widening it from just me and my content.”

Piers continued: “It’s clear from the recent US election that YouTube is an increasingly powerful and influential media platform, and Uncensored is one of the fastest-growing shows on it in the world. I’m very excited about the potential for Uncensored.”

Under the terms of this new venture, News UK stands to share in the advertising profits of the Uncensored channel until the year 2029. Piers Morgan shared a clip of a Sky News bulletin detailing his departure from News UK, captioning it: “BREAKING NEWS: Me!”

The presenter famously left ‘Good Morning Britain’ on March 9th, 2021, amidst a storm of controversy and a record 58,000 complaints to Ofcom over his remarks about Meghan Markle following her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. Earlier that day, he had dramatically walked off the ‘GMB’ set when co-host Alex Beresford confronted him for “trashing” Meghan, who is married to Prince Harry, during a discussion on her revealing interview. Piers was later cleared by the media watchdog, which ruled that his comments did not violate the broadcasting code.
