What was left of a tumble dryer after it caught fire in a house

This is what was left of a tumble dryer after a fire started at a property in Swansea. Two fire crews attended Ffordd Cambria in Pontarddulais on Tuesday, January 7 after receiving reports of the incident.

The occupier of the property had managed to remove the appliance prior to their arrival and crews from Gorseinon and Pontarddulais stations then used one hose reel jet, one ladder and one thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. They arrived at the scene at 6.25pm and left 39 minutes later.

Nobody was injured but the appliance “was completely destroyed by fire”. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has now issued a reminder of tumble dryer and white goods safety following the incident. For the latest Swansea news, sign up to our newsletter here.

A statement read: “Never leave appliances unattended – don’t turn your tumble dryer on before you leave the house or go to bed. Tumble dryers contain powerful motors with fast-moving parts that get very hot. Don’t overload your tumble dryer or put in items that have been used to soak up flammable liquids including cooking oil. Don’t ignore warning signs – if you can smell burning or have clothes that feel hotter at the end of the cycle, have your appliance checked by a professional.”
