Squid Game Season 2 shatters Netflix record with massive numbers in just 11 days

Netflix viewers have been captivated by the second season of Squid Game, which has now set a new record.

Since its release on December 26, the latest instalment has garnered an impressive 126.2 million views, surpassing any other Netflix series in the same timeframe.

The show made a record-breaking debut with 68 million views in just four days and added another 58.2 million views in its first full week. Upon its release, it quickly entered the list of most popular non-English language series, climbing from seventh to second place, only surpassed by the first season of the same show.

With ample time left to break the record set by the first series, there’s no doubt that season two will soon claim the top spot.

The second season picks up three years after Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) won the Squid Game and renounced his plans to move to the US.

His announcement read: “I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season.”

Hwang offered a tantalising glimpse into what fans can expect: “The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
