Live London snow updates as Croydon hit with mini-blizzard

It is currently snowing in parts of London. Footage shared on X shows heavy snowfall in Croydon, while another user wrote: “Sleet is getting heavier now here in East London.”

A Gatwick Airport spokesperson told MyLondon the airport is de-icing its runways. But it added there was no suggestion of delayed or cancelled flights.

The Met Office’s London forecast predicts icy sleet showers in the capital until 10pm, with temperatures currently feeling like a baltic -1C. The freezing forecast is accompanied by a yellow weather warning for snow covering the South of England, and a rare amber one for those in the South West.

The UK’s national forecaster says Londoners should expect possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers, as well as air travel delays.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Jason Kelly said: “Weather conditions will start to change from the southwest on Wednesday, with fronts from the Atlantic bringing milder air along with moisture. As this moisture encounters the cold air, snowfall is expected particularly over higher ground and away from the coast. However, there is still uncertainty about how far north these fronts will reach. They could either skirt the south or move into southern England.”

He continued: “Currently, a snow warning is in place, but it is not guaranteed. The situation is being closely monitored. As the forecast is finely balanced, do stay up to date with the latest forecast for your area.”
