Woman arrested for witness intimidation after police shoot XL Bully dead

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of intimidating a witness after an XL Bully dog was shot by police in Sheffield.

Armed police shot the XL Bully Dog on sight after it reportedly bit a woman and then ran towards police officers in Dunella Road, in Hillsborough, on Saturday, December 7, at 1.10pm. South Yorkshire Police said it was deemed necessary to kill the dog, named Ghost, as it came charging after their officers.

The force issued an appeal to find the woman who was reportedly bitten. She was seen holding her own small dog above her head for protection, before a kind stranger helped her get away in a car, according to an eye-witness.

The dog owner took to social media to protest her dog’s innocence. She launched an online fundraiser on Go Fund Me to raise money towards challenging laws and policies surrounding dogs, and a Facebook group. The fundraiser has so far raised more than £1,875 of its £5,000 target.

A force spokesperson said: “On 3 January, a 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of witness intimidation. She has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.”

South Yorkshire Police added their investigation remains ongoing.
