The hit series Grantchester is returning to our screens and we have all the information you need ahead of season nine. The ITV show, set in a Cambridgeshire village, is promising drama, mystery and more with Robson Green returning as DI Geordie Keating.

Grantchester will kick off with a big change as Tom Brittney is set to depart the show. Brittney, who plays Will Davenport, will be replaced by Rishi Nair as the village’s new vicar.

What is the plot of Grantchester

Set in the Cambridgeshire village of the same name, Grantchester is a detective drama set in the 1950s. The plot is loosely based on The Grantchester Mysteries, a number of short stories by author James Runcie.

In a summary of the first episode for season nine, ITV said: “Carson’s Circus has rolled into town. But its illusions and stunts are soon disrupted when one of its performers is found dead after being shot with a crossbow.”

How many episodes are there of Grantchester?

Airing on January 8, there will be eight episodes for the ninth season. Episodes will air weekly at 9pm with the season finale taking place on February 26.

Where was Grantchester filmed?

The show set in Cambridgeshire is filmed predominantly in the area. Kings College at Cambridge University and King’s Parade in Cambridge are among the filming sites used for the drama.

The Green Man was a common filming location and was a real pub in the area. However, the pub closed during the pandemic so pub scenes are now filmed on a set.
