Every road set for repair in Yorkshire town under 34 mile scheme

Rotherham Borough Council has geared up for a major road repair blitz with more than 34 miles of highways set to benefit from a mammoth £16 million investment.

The council’s cabinet gave the green light on December 16 for the 2024/25 highway repair programme, signalling the first phase of the ambitious four-year Rotherham Roads Programme. The overhaul will encompass 235 maintenance schemes which aim to rejuvenate a span of 34.6 miles of roads and breathe new life into 5.6 miles of footways across Rotherham.

Councillor Robert Taylor, who is at the helm of transport, jobs, and the local economy in the cabinet, emphasised that maintaining robust roads remains a ‘priority’ for the council. He said: “The roads and footways are surveyed and inspected regularly, and this allows us to keep the network safe and in a good condition. A range of innovative surface treatments and materials are used to provide cost effective solutions and provide value for money for residents. Customer satisfaction is positive, and a falling number of complaints also suggests that our roads investment is working.”
