Kirklees schools closed for fourth day due to snow and ice

Dozens of schools remain closed, partially closed or are opening late as the severe cold weather continues to cause disruption.

It is the fourth day some schools have closed their doors to pupils due to the snow and ice creating dangerous conditions in or around the site. Several stayed shut on Tuesday and Wednesday as the arctic blast continued with further snow.

And some are still shut for a fourth day due to the snow and ice. Many have also said they will now open – but at a later time.

The snow and ice has caused major disruption on the roads and public transport network too with some schools saying staff are unable to get to the site. And with the extreme cold weather set to continue into the weekend there could be further disruption ahead and some schools could stay shut all week.

Here is the list of schools closed or opening late:

• Ashbrow School – Primary School Late start at 10.30am due to icy conditions

• Batley Parish CE (VA) J I and N School – Primary School Late start

• Beaumont Primary Academy Closed

• Birkby Junior School Due to the icy conditions, school will open later on Thursday 9th January, between 9:30am and 10:00am

• Brambles Primary Academy Closed

• Bywell CE (C) Junior School – Primary School Closed

• Carlinghow Academy Closed

• Castle Hill School – Special educational needs (SEN) – All-through Closed

• Colne Valley High School – Secondary School Closed

• Crossley Fields J and I School – Primary School Closed

• Crow Lane Primary and Foundation Stage School – Primary School Closed

• Cumberworth CE (VA) First School – Primary School Late start – we plan to open school at 9.30am

• Eastborough Academy School will open for children at 10:30am due to anticipated bad weather conditions.

• Fixby J and I School – Primary School Closed

• Flatts Nursery School Closed

• Golcar J I and N School – Primary School Late start10am start on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th January due to the weather conditions

Should schools be allowed to close when it snows?

• Hanging Heaton CE (VC) J and I School – Primary School Late start. Children arriving on foot should arrive between 10 and 10.05 and be extra careful on the pavements. Those arriving in cars should do so between 10.10-10.15.

• Healey J I and N School – Primary School Closed

• High Bank J I and N School – Primary School Late start – Due to ongoing icy conditions, school will open late at 10:30am on Thursday 9th & Friday 10th January. Use main entrance only. Staggered pick up times have been emailed out.

• Hinchliffe Mill J and I School – Primary School Late start Thursday 9th January – 10:00 – 10:30am start due to icy conditions. Possibility of closure. Update by 9:00am.

• Holme J and I School – Primary School Closed

• Holmfirth J I and N School – Primary School Re-opened School will be open Thursday 9.1.25 – staggered start – 9.45am for pedestrians and 10.15am for those arriving by car. See website for more info

• Joseph Norton Academy – Special School Closed

• Kaye’s Academy – Primary School Late start Late start of 10:30am Thursday 9th January and Friday 10th January. Kaye’s Club closing at 4:30pm this week.

• Kirkheaton Primary School Late start in place – school will have a staggered opening tome from 10am until 10.30am

• Linthwaite Clough J I and Early Years Unit – Primary School Partially closed ONLY to Reception and Nursery Children due to flood in our Early Years Unit

• Manorfield I and N School – Primary School Closed

• Mill Lane Primary School Closed

• Millbridge, A SHARE Primary Academy – Primary School LLate start – children can arrive between 8.35am and 9.45am and enter school via the office door. No breakfast club on Thursday or Friday.

• Moldgreen Community Primary School Closed

• Moor End Academy – Secondary School Closed

• Norristhorpe J and I School – Primary School Closed

• Orchard Primary Academy – Primary School Closed

• Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School Late start Due to the continued cold temperatures and icy conditions school will open to children at the later time of 10.30am on Thursday 9th January 2025. • Reinwood Community Junior School – Primary School Late start Thursday 9th January – 10am start due to icy conditions

• Reinwood I and N School – Primary School Late start Late start, opening 10 am due to icy conditions. Breakfast club open from 7.45 am for pre-booked places only.

• Shaw Cross I and N School – Primary School Closed

• Shelley First School – Primary School Late start School is open but with later start from 9 – 9.30am to allow safe travel and avoid congestion on arrival. This is for Thursday 9th Jan and Friday 10th Jan
