All the Schools CLOSED around Greater Manchester as sub-zero cold snap continues – full list

Schools are keeping their doors closed as bitter sub-zero temperatures hit Greater Manchester. Temperatures fell to a recorded -8C this morning (January 9) according to the Met Office.

It comes amid a wintry start to 2025 which has seen the region hit by flooding, snow and ice. An amber cold health alert from the UK Health Security Agency is in force across the North West until Monday, January 12.

The Met Office also has a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in force across parts of the North West, including Wigan. A number of schools have confirmed they are staying closed this morning, with online learning available for many pupils at home instead.

Dozens of schools have been closed on certain days this week. Some which were previously closed have reopened, while others are shutting their doors again today.
