Notorious city shoplifter banned from one specific area – once he’s served time behind bars

A notorious Midlands shoplifter has been slapped with a ban from part of a city following a stint in prison. Jason Howard, 39, was responsible for a one-man crime spree in the Radford are of Coventry, repeatedly targeting local stores.

He confessed to nine instances of shop theft around Jubilee Crescent between November and early January, at Coventry Magistrates Court on Monday (January 6). Howard, of no fixed address, was sentenced to three months in jail.

However, upon his release, he will be prohibited from entering the Jubilee Crescent area due to a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). The Radford neighbourhood team and Local Offending Management Unit were instrumental in securing the banning order.

West Midlands Police said: “If he was to breach the order he faces being arrested and spending more time behind bars. However, the order also requires Howard to see support services following his release to reduce the risk of reoffending. We know how frustrating shoplifting is for business owners, and the wider community, and we’ll always look to identify and arrest suspects.”

They added: “A CBO gives us greater powers to arrest people known to be responsible for breaching their conditions and causing any associated anti-social behaviour,” reports Coventry Live.
