UK households who have a garden shed in their gardens have been issued a warning in the wake of Christmas. Amid the UK snow storm, gardeners have been urged to ensure sheds are prepared for the bitterly low temperatures and flurries of the white stuff.
Sheds not equipped to deal with the elements face mould, damp or rot. “During the winter months, our sheds, summer houses and other outdoor buildings can endure harsh conditions which may result in irreparable damage,” a spokesperson for GardenBuildingsDirect said.
“Taking the extra time and precautions to check [that] everything is prepared for the colder months may save you a lot of money in the long run by finding small problems which you can fix yourself. Completing simple tasks such as sealing any openings or adding extra insulation can be essential to keeping damp, mould and rot away from your outdoor structures.”

Asgard added: “The latest UK weather forecast shows that freezing winds and snow is on the way. Well what did we expect? Winter is coming after all! Strong winds, snow, ice and sleet can all cause damage to your garden equipment, furniture and even your shed. Before the winter weather hits, make sure you are prepared.”
It comes as yellow and amber weather alerts come into force for swathes of the country on Thursday and last until 11.59pm. The Met Office is warning of fresh lows with reports the mercury could drop to as low as -16C or -20C at times.
Asgard said: “If you have a wooden garden shed, these can be severely damaged in winter weather as it can cause swelling, rotting leaking and damage to the joints. Has your garden shed been battered and bruised over the years? Worried your shed won’t make it through the winter? It might be time for a new one.”
