Excitement builds as The Range set to open in Kings Heath

Excitement is building over the opening of a new DIY store in Birmingham. The Range will open a new branch in Kings Heath’s Findlay Road later this month.

The shop, which sells DIY equipment, bedding, curtains, crafts and more, will take over the former Homebase site. The Range is opening branches at a number of former Homebase locations across the UK after the retailer fell into administration, and was subsequently snapped up by rivals including B&Q.

The Range’s first wave of store openings is scheduled for January 17. We understand an exact date for the opening of the Kings Heath branch has not yet been made public.

An image of the new store was shared to a local neighbourhood Facebook group last night. It showed that the old Homebase sign has already been replaced with ‘The Range.co.uk’.

One local wrote in the comments section: “Rather chuffed about this. I don’t drive, so can’t get to the closest one. Huzzah!”

Another Brummie added: “Looking forward to paying a visit. Love The Range. It will be a boost for Kings Heath.”

A third said: “I’m pleased The Range has stepped in. Hopefully the staff from Homebase have been given the opportunity to continue to work there.”

Though most people appeared happy with the opening, some raised concerns over increased traffic in the area. One Kings Heath resident said: “Seeing all these people in the comments from outside the area saying they’ll have to visit…I’m sure they’ll all be using public transport and won’t be adding to our already congested High Street.”

Agreeing, another local added: “Good luck with that car park!”
