A man is in custody after an armed standoff with police. Officers rushed to Hailsham Road, Harold Hill, at around 6.45pm on Sunday (January 5) following reports of a domestic incident.
The response merited the presence of heavily armed cops due to the nature of the threats being made. The standoff ended with a man surrendering who was then arrested for GBH, threats to kill and assault on police.
He has since been taken to a secure unit for a mental health test. A separate man in the same home suffered minor injuries.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 6.46pm on Sunday, January 5, to reports of a domestic incident on Hailsham Road, Harold Hill. Local officers attended initially and were further supported by specialist firearms unit, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service due to threats being made.
“Following negotiations, a man surrendered himself to police where he was arrested for GBH, threats to kill and assault on police. He was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment where he remains.
“Another man from the address sustained minor injuries. A crime scene was put in place but has since been removed.
“This was an isolated incident which has been dealt with in partnership with other key partners and we thank them for their assistance.”
