Russell Howard, 44, shares extreme health regime as he admits being ‘terrified’ of death

Comedian Russell Howard has revealed he is trying to prolong his life with the help of biohacking, as he fears death. The 44-year-old believes he “inherited” this fear from his father, whose mother died at a young age.

Following this tragic event, he shared: “Now my dad’s really into fitness. I think I’ve inherited his mania with death.”

He further expressed his dread of growing old, adding: “I hate the idea of withering. I’ve seen relatives wither, and it was awful. If I could make it to 90 and be myself until 89 that would be enough for me.”

Becoming a father for the first time at 44 has only intensified his fears, he admitted. His wife Cerys Morgan, a doctor, gave birth to their first child together back in May.

On a mission to “cheating the ageing process”, Russell has since expressed an interest in biohacking. The broad term involves various DIY activities and practices aimed at enhancing physical, mental, and emotional performance or well-being.

This often involves a mix of biology, self-experimentation, technology, and lifestyle changes.

One such change for Russell is taking more cold showers, believed to offer numerous health benefits including improved metabolism and better circulation.

Furthermore, Russell admits to having “a desperately strange relationship with food”, limiting himself to just two meals a day.

In a further revelation, the comedian shared that he has taken a step back from television after an impressive 19-year stint, opting to focus on stand-up and his podcast ventures instead.

He was last featured on screens back in August as a guest on Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz of Telly.

Speaking on the Have A Word podcast, he shared: “I had a pretty good run, I just prefer doing stand-up. I was all over the world and it was just fun.”

Furthermore, he said “there’s nothing else I’d rather do” than crafting a performance and embarking on a tour.

“TV is fun but it’s not as fun. Writing a book, I couldn’t do because I don’t want to sit and entertain myself, but doing stand-up is what I love doing,” he added.
