51 postcodes where DWP £25 Cold Weather Payment has been triggered – check if you’re eligible

Thousands of people were set to receive a £25 payment from the Department of Work and Pensions ( DWP ). A new Cold Weather Payment has been triggered for those living in 51 postcode areas.

It’s thought around 95,000 households will be eligible for the payment, which was being issued to help with the cost of heating homes during the current cold snap. The latest payments have been activated by a seven-day period of sub-zero temperatures in the affected areas, which started on January 4.

An estimated 3.9 million people were eligible for Cold Weather Payments under the DWP scheme – including 1.2 million who were in receipt of Pensions Credit. In 2024, there were 364,000 payments made across England and Wales at a total cost of £9.1 million.

The new £25 payments cover 45 postcode areas around West Yorkshire, including Bradford, Halifax, and Huddersfield, and extend into parts of East Lancashire. Households in another six postcode districts in North Yorkshire and County Durham will also eligible for the payments.

So far this winter, more than 100,000 households have been eligible for Cold Weather Payments. You can check payments for your postcode area on our interactive map below.

According to the DWP, those claiming the following benefits could be eligible for the Cold Weather Payment; Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit, Support for Mortgage Interest.

However not everyone receiving these benefits would automatically receive a Cold Weather Payment. There are a number of factors which will determine whether a payment will be made – full details can be found here on the gov.uk website.
