Emmerdale has hinted at a serious health issue for Joe Tate, and it’s not looking promising.
Joe (played by Ned Porteous) made his dramatic comeback to the Dales last month, six years after his departure, and he’s already stirred up a lot of trouble for the village residents. Joe arrived as part of a scheme to bring down Kim Tate (Claire King), alongside her husband Will Taylor (Dean Andrews). However, the plot took a shocking twist when Will suffered a heart attack and died after Joe revealed everything.
Following Will’s death, Kim has been left devastated, with Joe sticking around, acting the supportive step-grandson and claiming to be there for Kim. But Joe’s return has also caused a stir among the other villagers, with many shocked to see him back in the Dales.
Moreover, amidst all the chaos, it appears that Joe is concealing a significant health secret, reports Leeds Live. Earlier this month, a scene depicted Joe in his room at the B&B, suddenly feeling unwell. Seemingly in pain, he rummaged through his bag and threw packets of pills onto the bed before taking the medication he needed.

Since then, his behaviour has raised suspicions among viewers. Last week, he asked Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) for some painkillers, leaving Kim worried. During the episode on January 8, Emmerdale may have given a significant hint regarding Joe’s mysterious condition.
In the scene, actor Ned appeared to flub his line while speaking to Billy Fletcher (played by Jay Kontzle), saying: “First she [Dawn] accuses Kim, now she’s pointing the finger at me.” Fans quickly noted that this seemed out of order since upon Joe’s recent return to the soap, Dawn was immediately suspicious of him in connection with her father Will’s death, not Kim.

However, some fans speculate this wasn’t an error but actually a subtle ‘clue’ into Joe’s ‘true’ issues. Discussion erupted on an Emmerdale fan page on Facebook, with one viewer questioning: “Did Joe get the lines wrong?” Other viewers shared their hypotheses, with one commenting: “I noticed that, thought it was strange. I wonder if he has a brain tumour or something?”
Another fan speculated: “Yes I think he has an illness going on, maybe a brain tumour. If it was the wrong line they would have retaken it, I think it was made too obvious so we would pick up on it.” Someone else concurred: “He’s got brain issues so was meant on purpose I think.” Another suggested: “Or Alzheimer’s maybe?”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
