BBC Weather issues verdict on when London cold snap will end

BBC Weather forecasters have announced when the current cold snap will leave the capital. Londoners will be feeling the bite until Wednesday (15 January), when thermostats will reach 10C.

It will be a welcome break from the sub-zero freeze with The Met Office forecasting things will feel like a baltic -3C tomorrow morning (Friday, January 10).

Chief Meteorologist Paul Gundersen said, “Another very cold night is expected tonight. Temperatures will be well below freezing across much of the UK so there is a continued risk of ice overnight and through Friday morning’s rush hour.

“Milder air will attempt to move into the UK from the southwest on Friday morning, heralding the end of this impactful cold spell. Increasing cloud and light rain, perhaps preceded by a little snow, will begin to affect northwestern then northern parts of the UK through the weekend.”

But for London, the cold temperature are to remain for much of this weekend, before they start to reach double figures at the start of next week.

As the day progresses, skies will gradually cloud over from the southwest, bringing a slight chance of a morning shower. Some areas may retain hazy sunshine throughout the day. SATURDAY Saturday will maintain dry conditions throughout, characterized by wintry sunshine interrupted occasionally by patches of moving cloud. The cold weather will persist with temperatures hovering around or just above freezing. There remains a risk of freezing fog patches forming. The evening will bring clear spells interspersed with patchy cloud.

SUNDAY Sunday continues the pattern of dry weather, featuring wintry sunshine and minimal cloud cover. While still cold, temperatures will be marginally milder than previous days. Freezing fog patches remain possible, and widespread frost is likely to develop overnight.

MONDAY Monday marks a slight change in conditions, bringing milder temperatures and bright, dry weather. The winds will remain gentle throughout the day, though the overall weather pattern will see little significant change. The gradual temperature recovery will be the most notable feature of the day.
