A man has been arrested after a woman was bombarded with 50 phone calls a day, police said. The arrest was one of two made by Greater Manchester Police on Thursday morning on suspicion of domestic abuse offences.
The force said a 28 year-old man was arrested under the Public Order Act in the Old Trafford area after reports he shouted obscenities outside a woman’s home, leaving her distressed. Another man, 35 and from Sale, Trafford, was also arrested on suspicion of stalking.
Police said it followed reports a woman was receiving more than 50 phone calls a day from a man, who had also been turning up at her home and the homes of her family members.
GMP said the arrest warrants were executed to target ‘suspected domestic abuse perpetrators’. The force said on Thursday night that both men remained in custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Keenaghan said: “Domestic abuse can often feel unescapable for victims. There are so many facets to this behaviour, which go beyond physical abuse which is what people typically think of when they hear the words domestic abuse.
“Taking action against those we believe to be committing offences against their partners, ex-partners, friends, or family members is daily business for us, to ensure we are keeping those suffering safe.
“I would encourage anyone who is being abused, whether that be physically, emotionally, psychologically, or otherwise, to come forward and speak to us, or seek support from one of our partners. You are not alone, and we are ready to help you.”
