Multiple snow and ice warnings remain in place for millions of Brits as a week of Arctic misery continues.
The Met Office today issued warnings for Brits in five regions in the UK after heavy snowfall lashed the country over the past few days. Forecasters have told Brits to be mindful of icy patches on pavements and on the roads in order to avoid injury.
Travel delays on roads and railway networks across the country are also expected in several parts of the country. The Met Office said the regions affected by yellow snow and ice warnings today are the East Midlands, North West England, Northern Ireland, Wales and West Midlands.
This morning much of the South East of England will see a chilly -3C start to the day while in an around Manchester people can expect an even colder -7C. In Wales temperatures will hover around 1C in Cardiff with the South West experiencing a comparatively warmer 4C.

Across the Irish Sea residents can expect to see their thermometers down to -5C, while over in Scotland temperatures fluctuate from -14C in the northernmost parts of mainland Scotland to 3C in Stornoway.
Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said of today’s weather: “A very cold start out there. Widespread frost and watch out for slippery surfaces once again. Icy patches, the main hazard as we begin the day, certainly where we’ve had precipitation falling overnight and then freezing of the ground and the air.”
He continued: “Minus five Celsius widely, minus double figures for some of the colder parts of northern Britain. Particularly where we have snow cover and some higher ground.”

In Cornwall, Devon, southern Wales, Somerset and Bristol, residents have woken up to an ice warning that will continue through to into 11am this morning. A Met Office spokesperson said: “Any accumulating snow will be largely reserved for hills, where a patchy 1-2 cm may accumulate above 150m elevation, and a small chance of 3-5 cm over Dartmoor. The extent of any precipitation across the north and east of the warning area, for example across Wales, is more uncertain, and it may remain largely dry here.”
Much of Wales, the West Midlands, Cheshire, Merseyside and parts of Greater Manchester is under a yellow weather warning until 10am. The east coast is under a similar yellow weather warning from the Scottish borders to Norfolk also until 10am.
The northern half of Northern Ireland faces a similar ice warning with snow accumulations of between 2cm to 4cm in isolated areas. Northernmost Scotland and the islands up to Shetland fall under a snow and ice weather warning until 10am today.

“Further accumulations of 1-4 cm are expected to low levels away from coasts with 5-10 cm possible above 150 metres,” the Met Office said. “Where any modest daytime thaw has occurred, icy stretches are likely on untreated surfaces.”
