Sophia Kelemen inquest after car park crash postponed due to power cut

The opening of two inquests had to be postponed due to a power cut. Baby Sophia Kelemen, from Leigh in Manchester, died following a crash at the multi-storey car park in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, on January 2. The six-month-old was taken to hospital but died from her injuries a day later on January 3. Aaron Jones, from Llanpumsaint in Carmarthenshire, died after being hit by a car while walking his dog in the village on the evening of December 23.

Inquests into both deaths were meant to be opened at Pembrokeshire County Hall on Friday. However, after a long delay, Pembrokeshire Council confirmed that a power cut meant its IT systems were down and the inquests could not go ahead as planned. Both have now been postponed and are due to take place next week on a date to be confirmed. For the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter here.

Following Sophia Kelemen’s death Flaviu Naghi, 33, of Irvine Street, Leigh, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance. Naghi appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, January 4, where he was remanded to appear before Swansea Crown Court on February 7. According to Dyfed-Powys Police, Naghi was also arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and drug-driving and has been released on bail for these offences.

Following Aaron Jones’s death a 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop for a collision, and failing to report a collision. He has since been released on bail with conditions, police have confirmed, while the investigation into the fatal incident continues.

On Christmas Eve, the day after the collision, local councillor Bryan Jones said the community of Llanpumsaint was “in mourning”. He said: “We are all grieving for the loss of Aaron. Llanpumsaint is a very close-knit community. It’s the type of community that will do anything to help the family at this tragic time. As a councillor I cannot put into words how I feel and how the community feels about what has happened. All our sympathies go to Aaron’s family and friends.”
