Littler had a match dart in the sixth set but could not take it as Joyce sent the match to a decider.
Yet it was still the Warrington wonderkid who prevailed to clinch a thrilling victory.
Awaiting him in the last eight is a clash with friend Aspinall – who dispatched Ricardo Pietreczko in the afternoon session.
Littler or Aspinall will face the winner of Peter Wright vs Stephen Bunting in the semi-finals.
