HMRC has announced new Child Benefit rates for 2025 into 2026 now Christmas is behind us. HMRC has confirmed that families with one child will now receive the new amount of £26.05 per week, up from £25.60 each week – worth £1,354 a year.
Families will also receive £17.25 per week (up from £16.95) for each additional child they have after that. There is no limit to how many children families can claim for. You may be affected by the tax charge if your ‘adjusted net income’ is over £60,000 for the tax year 2024 to 2025 or over £50,000 for tax years 2012 to 2013 up to tax year 2023 to 2024.
Adjusted net income includes taxable benefits you get from your job, like a company car or medical insurance. Your partner is responsible for paying the tax charge if their adjusted net income is also more than £60,000 and higher than yours (for the tax year 2024 to 2025) or £50,000 and higher than yours (for tax years 2012 to 2013 up to tax year 2023 to 2024).

Families with ongoing claims do not need to contact HMRC, as the increased benefit payment will continue to be paid directly into their bank accounts. Anyone who needs to update their personal details, such as a change of bank account or address, can do so online at GOV.UK.
You can claim Child Benefit if you’re responsible for a child under 16 (or under 20 if they’re in approved education or training). Only one person can claim Child Benefit for a child. For couples with one partner not working or paying National Insurance contributions, making the claim in their name will help protect their State Pension.
Child Benefit is paid into your account, usually every 4 weeks. You receive National Insurance credits, to protect your State Pension.
