We’ve seen some odd things in Bristol, but we’ve never seen a house that’s been built on its head before. But, with construction set to begin on Bristol’s very own Upside Down House at the end of January, that’s about to change. It’s being built on Bristol’s iconic Harbourside, next door to our science centre – We The Curious.

What is an Upside Down House?

Upside Down House is a unique museum of topsy-turvey illusions not only perfect for kids but adults too. The topsy-turvy attraction even transforms into a haunted house for Halloween and into a festive grotto at Christmas time. The very first Upside Down House in the UK was built in 2018, but there are now 11 houses open across the UK – including in Brighton, Liverpool and Bournemouth

“We are thrilled to be opening a brand new location in the heart of Bristol, and the only one in the South West!” said Alex Barbary, Associate Director at Upside Down House UK. “Bristol’s quirky blend of culture and entertainment makes it the perfect setting for our unique attraction.”

What will it look like?

As the only Upside Down House in the South West, it has been designed to uniquely reflect Bristol’s vibrant and lively culture – with a bold magenta exterior. Meanwhile, the interior will feature an open-plan layout, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in incredible, mind-bending photos!

With less than a month until it officially opens, Upside Down House will work closely with We The Curious – which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year – and other neighbouring businesses. According to its website, it will be open from February 8, Monday to Sunday, 10am to 8pm, with tickets from £6.45 per person. You can purchase yours online now, or wait until the ticket office opens.
