Netflix’s Bank of Dave star reveals why he’s giving away 90% of his fortune when he dies

The real-life inspiration behind Netflix’s smash hit Bank of Dave film has revealed why he plans to give away more than 90% of his fortune when he dies.

Self-made millionaire Dave Fishwick’s exploits for setting up his own community bank, Burnley Savings and Loans, became a best-selling movie on the streaming platform back in 2023.

Played by James Bond actor Rory Kinnear, it proved so successful a second film – Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger – was quickly commissioned and has been released today (January 10).

Dave, who made his fortune becoming the biggest supplier of minibuses across the UK, shared with Lancashire Live that the films have been “life-changing”. Despite his success, Dave isn’t spending his days in leisure; instead, he’s planning to donate the majority of his wealth.

He explained: “One of my children is a front line police officer and the other one works with animals and I have two grandchildren, two little boys.

“Myself and Nicky (his wife) and my family have all the money we need. We are going to give 90% plus of it away. I am a big believer in letting children have enough to do anything but not too much to do nothing.”

Dave also criticised other wealthy individuals, saying: “A lot of people with money seem to climb up a tree and then pull the ladder up and they are frightened to death of anybody knowing anything and it is bonkers.

“If you live in a big house, you’ve got the cars, aircraft, and I’ve been in every direction you could possibly think about in the world and most of the time it is working.

“I have done all the things I need to do, you can only wear one shirt at once, you can only wear one pair of paints at once, you can only watch one telly, and if you’ve got a decent telly and you’ve got a decent mattress to lie on and you’ve got a home with a roof over your head, then it’s pretty much love for something else then.”

Dave’s passion is assisting working-class individuals and utilising his television documentaries and films to confront what he terms as the “baddies”.

This is the central theme of his forthcoming film, in which Kinnear once again portrays Dave in a semi-true story about him challenging payday loan companies after discovering people were being charged up to 5,000% interest.
