No Trousers Tube Ride 2025 date, rules and how it started

An unusual annual tradition is taking place this weekend on the London Underground as hundreds are expected to go bare. The No Trousers Tube Ride is taking place on Sunday, January 12 which will see groups riding the Tube without any trousers on.

Inspired by the No Pants Subway Ride, which began in New York in 2002, the free London event has been held since 2009 during the first month of the new year to bring a bit of fun to the Tube network.

In previous years it was organised by The Stiff Upper Lip Society but as events around the world fizzled out they decided to make 2024 the last year. Nether-the-less former member of the group, Dave Selkirk has picked up the mantle to organise 2025’s ride having also arranged separate No Trousers Tube Rides in 2023 and 2024.

Riders will be meeting in Newport Place, China Town, Soho opposite the Old Pagoda site at 2.45pm for a 3pm start. Participants are asked to arrive fully clothed with a bag to store trousers in once the signal is given to strip down.

Those braving the cold are asked to “keep underpants as normal or low-key as possible, so it looks like you’ve just forgotten your trousers”. The eyebrow raising event has received mixed reactions in recent years with some calling it ‘harmless fun’ and ‘nothing to get your knickers in a twist about’ while some have called it ‘weird’ and ‘daft’.
