Two friends say they were left ‘curled up in a ball getting kicked from every angle’ as they were attacked by a gang of teenagers.
Mac Goldworthy and Daniel Flanagan say ‘seven or eight’ thugs subjected them to a vicious beating in Bury town centre as they walked home from a night out.
Mac, 28, from Radcliffe, says he was left in ‘agony’ following the attack, with ‘lumps and bruises’ to his back and face.
He was taken to hospital and given a CT scan, which thankfully found no serious injuries. Mac and Daniel had been out to watch the Tyson Fury fight on Saturday December, 21, then onto a nightclub before they were attacked at about 4am on Broad Street.
Police confirmed to the M.E.N that an investigation was under way and that one suspect had been arrested. They did not confirm the age or gender of the suspect.
Mac said: “We were just walking down the street. Next thing we saw them circling. All of a sudden they charged at us. We were a bit worse for wear. They were chasing us down the street.
“I ended up on the floor with my hands over my head getting kicked in. I managed to get up and get away then they got me again. I was curled up in a ball on the floor just getting kicked from every angle. Luckily the police turned up straight away.
“I had lumps all over my head and back. I had the biggest black eye I’ve ever seen and I had to have my eyebrow glued because they split it open.
“I’ve hardly been out of bed since it happened. I’ve been in agony. I’ve not wanted to leave the house.”
Daniel, 31, from Heywood added: “We were walking towards the bus station when we heard a commotion behind us. We turned around and they just ran at us.
“They must have been young because I heard one of them say ‘I’m going to get kicked out of college for this’. I was just curled up on the floor so they couldn’t get my head or face.”
Daniel says he suffered injuries to his back and ribs, but didn’t require hospital treatment. He added: “It was scary. It was completely unprovoked. It’s not like it was one or two of them – it was seven or eight.”
