Strictly Come Dancing star hints three specific royals ‘could’ join show after conversation

A former star of Strictly Come Dancing has divulged that members of the Royal Family might just set foot on the show’s famous dance floor. Channel 5’s Dan Walker, who appeared in the 19th series of the much-loved BBC dance contest, revealed having a conversation with a royal about six weeks ago.

According to him, the royals are fans of the programme, but he specifically named three who could potentially end up shimmying for votes, according to a report from the Mail. Dan disclosed: “I spoke to her about six weeks ago, and [the royals] all watch it. Fergie is probably the one [who would do it], or maybe one of her daughters, but so much time is required.”

Earlier in the year, it was rumoured that Sarah Ferguson, also affectionately known as Fergie, had declined an offer to join the 20th installment of the series, despite being a regular face on our screens.

In addition to her ITV This Morning slots, the Duchess of York famously appeared in a Friends episode titled ‘The One With Ross’s Wedding’ back in 1998.

It’s fairly public knowledge that the royals are fond of Strictly, with professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova previously stating in an interview with Closer magazine that Princess Anne “wants to go on the show” and revealing another member’s in-depth knowledge of the show.

Nadiya recounted: “Prince Andrew and I also had a little conversation last year and he knew everything about the show; when I was in and when I was out, and who won it. It just blows your mind to think how big this show is.”

Fans of the show include royalty like Queen Camilla and it’s believed even the late Queen Elizabeth II was fond of the series. Nonetheless, the Royal Family follows strict behavioural protocols, indicating that despite Mike Tindall’s stint on I’m a Celebrity in 2022, it seems unlikely they’ll be claiming the coveted Glitterball trophy for the palace anytime soon, reports Lancs Live.

During his 2021 run, Dan Walker teamed up with Nadiya Bychkova but was regretfully knocked out after a dance battle against AJ Odudu. Writing for I News, he reflected: “It ended up being one of the greatest televisual experiences of my life but, if I’m totally honest, it started out as one of the worst.”
