Last year, Chanel-inspired cardigans became a huge trend, with tons of brands dropping their own versions of the designer-looking pieces. M&S largely led the way on this, releasing various colourways and patterns.
It seems that the trend is not going away anytime soon in 2025. And M&S has done it again, recently launching a black and cream cardigan reminiscent of the iconic brand, but this time with a New Year update.
Last year, the focus was largely on the oversized gold button detailing; however, this year’s version seems to be more subtle and toned down.
The cardigan is available in either cream or black, with the cream option featuring black trim detailing and the black option featuring the opposite. The gold buttons are still there but far less prominent than in other styles, creating a sleeker silhouette.
One design feature we particularly love is the relaxed, boxy fit, which gives the cardigan a cool and modern update.
We’re not the only ones who are fans of the piece, with shoppers already leaving happy reviews. One customer wrote, “Looks more expensive. Absolutely love it, so many people ask where I bought it”. At under £40, we’d have to agree that the cardigan looks far more luxe than its affordable price tag.

Another customer praised the design, saying, “I like the cut, it keeps you warm in the cold”. With the frosty weather we’ve been having, cosy knits are key winter wardrobe essentials, and this cardi perfectly combines style with practicality. However, the cardigan does not come without criticism, with one customer writing, “It looks so stylish, but it’s viscose and polyester, both of which are itchy.” So, it’s worth bearing in mind that if your skin is on the sensitive side or you find certain materials irritating, this cardigan might not be for you.
