Harry and Meghan’s ‘Sussex Survivors Club’ may have new member as chair quits Duke’s firm

A high-ranking staff member has resigned from Prince Harry’s eco-friendly travel firm, Travalyst, marking another setback for the Sussexes who have reportedly lost a minimum of 19 employees in recent times.

India Gary-Martin, who served as the chair of Harry’s sustainable non-profit organisation, Travalyst, has departed the company after less than two years of service.

Travalyst confirmed that she left prior to Christmas to focus on her own business, Leadership For Execs, and has been succeeded by former Google executive Gianni Marostica.

Upon securing the role, Gary-Martin expressed her excitement and considered it a “responsibility and honour” to ensure that “people of colour are central to conversations about sustainability”.

Her departure signifies the latest in a series of at least 19 staff members who have left the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s employment since their marriage in 2018, reports the Express.

The Mail suggests that such a significant number of workers have parted ways with the couple that former staff members reportedly identify themselves as part of the ‘Sussex Survivors Club’.

Other notable departures include PR executive Josh Kettler, who held the position of chief of staff for a mere three months, and Bennett Levine, who was the coordinator for Archewell Productions.

Last September, Sally Davey, CEO of Travalyst, told People magazine that Prince Harry had “restored” her optimism for travel sustainability after feeling “frustrated and disillusioned”.

She continued to praise the Duke, describing him as “remarkable” and “committed” to “making a difference”, and mentioned that working with Harry had been an “absolute joy”.

Travalyst, according to its official website, is a not-for-profit global coalition comprising travel and technology companies. Its mission is to provide “credible, consistent sustainability information to the mainstream” to enable people to make “more informed travel choices”.

The initiative aims to present sustainability information in a way that is “transparent”, helping travellers to have clear information at their disposal when making bookings.

Nonetheless, Prince Harry and Meghan have come under scrutiny for their personal use of private jets, which has raised eyebrows given the Duke’s advocacy for sustainable travel.

Royal commentator Omid Scobie has questioned this, previously stating to The Standard: “These are things if I was their publicist I would be telling them not to do.”
