London, the city that never sleeps, is a magnet for millions of tourists and locals alike. But even the most dedicated urbanite needs a break from the concrete jungle every now and then.
As we venture into 2025, it’s time to start thinking about your next escape from the city. The UK is packed with hidden gems that offer a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.
One such treasure is a charming village just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from London, making it the perfect spot for a staycation or day trip this year.
This delightful village has been named one of the most scenic in the country – and even caught the eye of film producers, featuring in the Bridget Jones films as the place Bridget’s parents live.
Snowshill’s architecture is seriously beautiful

Tucked away in Gloucestershire, Snowshill is a tranquil village with a tiny population of just 160 people. While it may not draw as many visitors as other Cotswold hotspots, it boasts plenty of attractions.
The village is renowned for its unspoilt beauty and stunning views over the Severn Vale. The star attraction of Snowshill is undoubtedly Snowshill Manor, a National Trust property open to the public.
The manor is home to a diverse array of items, from furniture and toys to bicycles and armour, all amassed by English architect and craftsman Charles Paget Wade between 1900 and 1951. Charles breathed new life into the manor after it had fallen into disrepair.
The accompanying Arts and Crafts Garden is a sight to behold, featuring a series of outdoor rooms, intriguing doorways and a miniature village.
Your ticket will give you entry to the garden, the ground floor of the Priest’s House (Cottage), the shop, second-hand bookshop and cafe. If you’re up for a bit more exploration, the stunning Snowshill Lavender is just around the corner, home to 70 acres of lavender fields.

For grub and a pint, head to The Snowshill Arms in the village centre. This quintessential English country pub dates back to the 15th century and serves classic pub food, homemade specials and beers from a local Worcester brewery.
If you fancy more dining options, nearby Broadway village has plenty on offer, including Russells of Broadway, located in a five-star hotel. Getting to Snowshill can be a bit tricky as public transport is limited but manageable.
You’ll need to take a train from Paddington to either Evesham in Gloucester or Moreton-in-Marsh. From there, hop on two buses, the R4 and then the 606.
The 606 bus stops at Old Manor Farm House, from where it’s a 2-mile walk, roughly 44 minutes. Alternatively, a taxi ride to Snowshill from either town takes about 20 minutes.
If you’re driving, the journey typically takes between two hours, 10 mins and three hours, 10 minutes depending on traffic via the M40.
