Nathan Jones has talked about Charlton Athletic’s issues at right wing-back and praised Thierry Small for deputising there.
The Addicks are without all three of their natural options for that position with Kayne Ramsay, Tennai Watson and Tayo Edun all injured.
Small, who is left-footed, played down his weaker side but still impressed in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers.
“We were finding solutions for weeks – all our right side has been decimated,” said Charlton boss Jones.
“Someone sent me a nice little Christmas card in, asking me not to play Tyreece Campbell at right wing-back. We don’t want to play Tyreece Campbell at right wing-back but we haven’t got an option there.
“What we do, is we have to find round pegs for round holes and that is difficult because all of our right side has been decimated and we’ve been very competitive with only one side functioning. We’ve had to play centre-halves at right-back and right wing-back.
“We don’t want to change too much about how we play and our DNA, but we’ve had to. The window gives us an opportunity to try and improve in that department. But we have asked Thierry, who is a young player learning his trade, to do that and he has been wonderful. I’m proud of the kid.”
