Experts have been sharing exactly what temperature you should be setting your central heating thermostat at. And, if you get it right, it will save you £100 a year, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
With the temperatures plummeting outside, people have been turning to their central heating to keep themselves warm. But that just starts the next question – what do you dial it up to?
Well an Energy Saving Trust spokesperson said the sweet spot is between 18C and 21C. Also, they shared a little-known-rule that can save you £100 a year.

They said: “You should set your thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature for your needs. For most people, this is between 18°C and 21°C.
“If you can, turning down your thermostat from 22°C to 21°C can save £90 a year in GB and £100 in NI on energy bills.”
In terms of the best time of day to put the heating on, generally, it’s useful to have your heating come on around half an hour before you get up in the morning. Then, have turn it off again around half an hour before you go to bed.
If you’re planning on being out of the house, you can turn the heating off while nobody’s in.
BirminghamLive reported yesterday a central heating mistake we all make when temperature drops. The Energy Saving Trust also urges people to bear in mind that room thermostats need a free flow of air to get a better sense of the temperature.
Therefore, it’s important to make sure they’re not blocked by curtains or furniture and to keep them away from heat sources like radiators.
