A Birmingham charity shop which ‘created a cycle of kindness’ has shut down after three ‘remarkable’ years. After closing last week, customers were thanked for bringing a ‘positive change’ to the area.
Located inside the Northfield Shopping Centre, YMCA Northfield opened its doors in the summer of 2021. The charity shop sold second-hand high street, and designer clothing as well as shoes, books and other accessories.
The store closed its doors for the final time on January 4 and YMCA extended gratitude to anyone who donated, shopped and volunteered. The closure means the nearest YMCA charity shop for Northfield residents is in Chelmsley Wood.

In a statement, YMCA said: “YMCA is saddened to be closing its local charity shop in Northfield after years of service and support to the local community. Through the kind donations and custom, the charity shop has helped to raise vital funds for YMCA’s work in the local community.
“YMCA is still present in the local area, and the nearest charity shop is in Chelmsley Wood; we hope to see you there soon.
“YMCA remains committed to making a difference in the lives of young people and communities. As we say goodbye to a local charity shop, we want to highlight the positive change it has brought to Northfield.
“The cycle of kindness created through donations and volunteer support has been truly remarkable.”
YMCA area manager George Bradley added: “The charity shop has played a significant role in our community, offering not only items at a significant saving but the money raised in stores go to YMCAs work in the local region and to its young people they serve.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has donated, shopped, and volunteered with us. Your generosity has made a meaningful impact on many lives.”
