Alan Titchmarsh has expressed his disdain for ‘rude’ celebrities following an ‘unbearable’ dining experience.
Growing up, Alan was instilled with the value of politeness, and he’s found himself annoyed by the conduct of some stars in public.
In a conversation with the I newspaper, the ex-Gardeners’ World host recounted instances where he observed famous individuals being discourteous to service staff while eating out, reports the Daily Express.
The esteemed gardener remarked: “For the most part, the guests on Pebble Mill were also very polite. But there was the odd exception. I’ve been in situations where famous people have been rude to waiters or waitresses and I find that unbearable.”

He further explained his strict stance against ill-mannered dinner companions, stating: “In those situations I will just get up and go.”
While he refrained from naming any specific ‘unbearable’ celebrities from his time on Pebble Mill, he did share a memorable moment with renowned actress Joan Collins.
Recounting the interaction, he said: “People always ask interviewers, ‘What were they REALLY like? ’ don’t they? I remember the second time I interviewed Joan Collins, I told her people had asked me what she was like ‘close up’. She thrust her face towards me and said: ‘Well? ? ! ’ I said: ‘Very good!’”
During his tenure as host of Pebble Mill at the BBC starting in 1991, Alan engaged with numerous celebrated figures, including Shirley Bassey and Morgan Freeman.
Alan Titchmarsh, best known for his role as the presenter of Gardeners’ World, initially made his mark in broadcasting two decades earlier as a gardening expert on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours and The Today Programme. He hosted the show until its conclusion in 1996.
Currently, he hosts Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, where he is frequently accompanied by celebrity guests. In this weekends episode he will be joined by West End star Trevor Dion Nicholas, actress Jane Asher and artist Ruth Wheeler among many others.
The latest episode of the show will be broadcast this morning (Sunday, January 12) on ITV at 9.30am.
