A mum’s post on Instagram has gone viral after she shared her realisation that adult social life isn’t quite like the scenes from TV shows. Chelsea Torres, hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii, posted a video of herself having a quiet breakfast at home alone, with a caption that read: “Adults having breakfast at a friend’s apartment before heading off to work is the biggest lie television ever told me.”
She also added the message, “the show Friends really set me up for failure,” referring to the iconic sitcom which often showed the characters popping into each other’s homes at any time of day.
Social media users echoed her sentiment, with one commenting on the unrealistic portrayal of friendships on-screen: “Seriously! Breakfast at each other apartments, lunch at a coffee shop that’s nowhere near work, or being a chef who never worked nights.”
Another person highlighted the absurdity some shows present about adult life, questioning why characters don’t just go straight to work instead of engaging in elaborate early morning gatherings.
