The Bank of Dave sequel has reached the number one spot on Netflix.
Bank of Dave: The Loan Ranger was released on Friday January 10 and features Burnley-based Dave Fishwick taking on payday loan companies.
The hotly-anticipated film sees Dave recruit Jessica, an American investigative reporter, and Oliver, a local Citizen’s Advice counsellor, to his cause. Together they embark on a journey that will eventually take them to the United States and help bring down an entire industry of predatory corporations.
Dave Fishwick posted on X to confirm the film had lived up to its predecessor in reaching the number one spot on Netflix. He wrote: “WOW!!! WE ARE NUMBER ONE!!! ON NETFLIX!!!”
The first Bank of Dave movie became a global hit, soaring to number one on Netflix in many territories. Viewers took the feel-good underdog story to their hearts and a sequel was immediately commissioned.
The sequel was filmed mostly in Burnley itself including in Dave’s own house.
Fans have been quick to praise the sequel. One fan raved on X: “@BankofDave #bankofdave2 I know the recent movie has entertainment value just for the crack of it and yet I still love it.
“It doesn’t mask the truth regards the loan sharks out there and our #wonderful #davefishwick and his supporters in #Burnley. Worth a watch. Well done guys.”
Someone else wrote: “Towards end of life in Financial Regulation we tried forcing Government to regulate WONGA etc&failed. ‘Outside remit/necessary evil’.
“Dave Fishwick forced hand few years later. The latest #BankOfDave film has added Hollywood obvs. But good watch. Bloke should be knighted by now.”
