Kym Marsh says ‘it still doesn’t feel real’ in tribute after heartbreaking loss

Kym Marsh has paid a heartbreaking tribute to her father a year on from his death. David Marsh died on January 12, 2024 following a “long battle with prostate cancer”.

The former Coronation Street actress and Hear’Say singer Kym had revealed his diagnosis in 2021, when she took an extended break from her presenting duties on BBC show Morning Live. She later revealed she had been suffering from anxiety attacks and was seeking help for her mental health amid her father’s prostate cancer diagnosis earlier that year.

Today, Kym marked the anniversary of his death on Instagram. She wrote: “One year ago today life changed forever. One year without you. One year of missing you.

“One year of missing your voice, your laugh, your silly jokes. In some ways it still doesn’t feel real Dad. Like you’re gonna walk back through the door any minute. I wish you would.

“I wish I could give you a cuddle one more time. I wish I could tell you how much I love you, and hear you tell me that you love me to Aldi and back as you always did.

“Just to hear your voice again would be the best gift ever. Life will never be the same. Learning to live without you is the hardest thing to do, you were everything to me and you always will be.

“I know you are always with me Dad. No matter what. You were always my biggest cheerleader and I know you will be there cheering me on always, helping me through tough times, and laughing at me when I make silly mistakes. I really hope I make you proud Pops. I really do.

“Today the family will be together. Remembering you, sharing stories, telling your silly jokes and raising a glass to the best man there ever was!! There will never be another like you! My wonderful, wonderful Dad.

“I miss you so much. I love you with all of my heart. Always and forever. Your shadow.”
