‘Just 10’ cities and towns in England face more snow before end of January

Weather maps show 10 UK cities set to be battered by more snow this month as January continues to be bitterly cold across England. Maps from WXCharts show that more flurries in January will be confined to parts of northern England and Scotland.

Just 10 cities across the UK are set for more snow in January. Yorkshire will see snowfall on January 24, the data shows, with cities such as Leeds, Wakefield, Ripon, Bradford, and York set to see around 2cm per hour from midday.

Cities such as Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, and Stirling are also likely to experience a brief flurry of snow, which will be largely confined to central and western areas. The reports come via the Met Desk, which WX Charts uses for its projections – alongside Ventusky and Netweather TV.

In the short-term, the BBC Weather forecast for Monday (January 13) explains: “Today much of the UK will be cloudy, with outbreaks of rain in the north. Dry and brighter in the south and south-east. Cloud will break up in northern Scotland into the evening. Less cold.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday (January 14), the Beeb states: “Tonight, southern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland will stay dry and largely clear. Elsewhere, the skies will be cloudy with spells of patchy light rain moving in.

“Tomorrow, most of the UK will see cloudy skies and breezy conditions. There will be some brighter spells to the north-east and towards the south-west.” Its outlook for the rest of the week explains: “Wednesday will see thick cloud linger in the south. Brighter for most elsewhere, but rain moves in to north-west Scotland.

“Thursday will remain cloudy across north-west with a few spells of rain later on. Southern areas will remain cloudy but it will be brighter elsewhere. On Friday, the north-west will be cloudy with light rain. Variable cloud and sunny spells elsewhere.”
