Doctor says only exercise today if you’ve had this much sleep

A doctor has explained whether or not a person should exercise after a bad night’s sleep. Neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, who is known for his globally-renowned Huberman Lab podcast, has shared the pros and cons for doing so with his millions of social media followers.

While some people may think that being too tired is cause to skip a workout, others may believe that moving their bodies could help energise them. Dr Huberman has now explained the science behind poor sleep and exercise, so as to help people know what to do.

In a new post on Instagram, the expert said: “SHOULD YOU EXERCISE AFTER A BAD NIGHTS SLEEP? The short answer to this very common question is, yes.

“But only if it’s fairly mild sleep deprivation for instance, if you sleep only half or 3/4 of your usual ration required required to feel rested and alert.” He went on to explain that “exercise can offset some of the negative effects of sleep deprivation.

“However, you’re going to need to be mindful of a couple key issues related to intensity and not getting sick or injured.” The update also shared a clip from the latest episode of his Huberman Lab podcast which “is all about the effects of exercise on the brain in the short term and long-term and specific movements that you can add to your exercise routine that don’t take much time, and zero cost (in other words, that don’t require any special equipment), and that have been shown to improve brain function and plasticity.”
