Alton Towers plans for new CBeebies Land rollercoaster take next step

Alton Towers has revealed plans for a new rollercoaster, which could potentially open next year. The theme park, renowned for its adrenaline-pumping rides such as Nemesis Reborn, The Smiler, Rita and Oblivion, is now looking to add a ‘junior rollercoaster’ specifically designed for young children.

The proposed ride will be situated in CBeebies Land and is anticipated to welcome the public in 2026. There’s growing speculation that the attraction might be themed around the popular TV show Bluey, however, no details have been confirmed yet.

Alton Towers announced the news on Instagram last month and a planning application has since been submitted by Merlin Entertainments to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council. A spokesperson said: “Exciting news! We’ve submitted a planning application for a brand-new junior coaster in CBeebies Land, which we hope to open in 2026.

“If approved, this new attraction will be perfect for our youngest thrill-seekers and their families to enjoy together. Stay tuned for updates – we can’t wait to share more.”

The application, which is yet to be validated by planning officers, states: “The proposal is for the removal of an existing attraction and to replace it with a new attraction and ancillary buildings (station and maintenance buildings) within the CBeebies Land area of Alton Towers.”

The proposal for a new junior rollercoaster at Alton Towers Resort has garnered support from the community. One enthusiastic resident expressed their backing, saying: “I give my support for this application made by Alton Towers Resort for a new junior rollercoaster to be placed in CBeebies Land within the resort. It will give excitement for the little ones and fun for all the family to enjoy.”

Theme park fans, responding to Alton Towers’ announcement, have voiced their hopes that the upcoming attraction will feature a Bluey theme, reports Stoke on Trent Live.

The resort already hosts a live show starring Bluey, her sister Bingo, and their parents Bandit and Chilli. Since its opening in 2014, CBeebies Land has been a hit with families, offering 13 child-friendly rides, including favourites like Octonauts, Postman Pat, and Peter Rabbit.
