Millions of WASPI women given chance to ‘make their case’ for £2,950 payout from DWP

WASPI campaigners (Women Against State Pension Inequality) will be handed the chance to make their case for compensation payouts before a group of Labour Party MPs. The campaign group will attend an evidence session of the Work and Pensions Committee.

The evidence meeting is taking place on January 22. WASPI is a campaign group fighting for fair compensation for the maladministration by the DWP in not properly informing 1950s women of State Pension Age changes.

WASPI campaign chair, Angela Madden, said of the upcoming committee meeting: “That will be an opportunity for us to talk to the committee about what are our options now, what we would like to happen now. The select committee is part of the Government process.

“They are the people who hold the Department of Work and Pensions to account.” Ms Madden went on, saying: “A letter from them or a request from them has to be taken seriously by the department.” The report was presented to Parliament on 21 March 2024. It makes clear that the DWP should apologise and compensation – worth £2,950 – should be paid for the consequences of WASPI women not being told about State Pension age changes sooner by the DWP.

Responding to the latest developments, one WASPI woman said: “I continue to feel sick at what the government did to us and even worse l do not receive a full pension as l left work at 60 and so discontinued paying national insurance. I wasn’t informed by the government that l should have continued with these payments until a few months before my 66th birthday.”

“Its DISGUSTING; The Government spent my NI contributions for this since I was 16 years old, and now cant pay me, as per Contract!! Rubbish, they cant pay, it is ours!!! Its fraudulent discrimination and huge breech of our Contract with the Government!!! And we mostly raised children of the Nation,” said a second.
