Coronation Street’s Shelley King, who has portrayed Yasmeen Nazir for a remarkable 11 years, is reportedly set to depart from the soap.
Shelley, aged 69, made her first appearance on the cobbles as Yasmeen in 2014 and is scheduled to leave Weatherfield later this year.
Reports suggest she has completed her filming, with her character set to vanish from the show following her final scenes in March.
The departure of Shelley is among a series of notable exits from Coronation Street, amidst rumours that the soap is facing challenges managing its budget.
Other prominent cast members, including Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgelet), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw) and Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), are also expected to leave the soap by 2025.

Fans of the soap may be disappointed by the news of Shelley’s exit, as her portrayal of Yasmeen has won her considerable admiration.
An insider disclosed to The Sun: “This will be another blow for fans of the show, as Yasmeen is a much-loved character who’s part of the fabric of Corrie.

She’s had some huge storylines since she joined the soap in 2014, and she’ll be sorely missed by cast and crew. It’s understood she is leaving so she can “explore other projects.”, reports the Mirror.
Yasmeen began featuring in a high-profile coercive control storyline from May 2019 onwards, involving her second husband Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew).

The plot culminated in May 2020, when Geoff infected Yasmeen with chlamydia after sleeping with prostitutes, and she stabbed him in the throat with a broken glass bottle when he threatened her with a kitchen knife.
The Nazir family are the show’s first muslim family. ITV has been approached for a comment.
