Emmerdale fans are speculating the return of a Dingle family legend, following a significant twist in the storyline involving April Windsor.
The character, played by Amelia Flanagan, has been missing since Christmas Day, last seen entering an unfamiliar car driven by an unknown person.
April’s disappearance followed a tumultuous period in the Dales. After discovering the truth about her mother Donna’s (Verity Rushworth) death in 2014, April spiralled into substance abuse and had a falling out with her father Marlon (Mark Charnock), before vanishing.
In the wake of her disappearance, Marlon and the rest of the village have been desperately trying to locate April. A recent development saw the release of a chilling CCTV video that showed a potential sighting of April running across a street in Leeds.

This new evidence has led fans to theorise that April’s return to the Dales might coincide with the reappearance of a beloved Dingle character: Eli.
Joseph Gilgun, who portrayed Eli Dingle on the show, first appeared in 2006. As Marlon Dingle’s (Mark Charnock) younger brother, Eli quickly became a fan favourite, reports Leeds Live.
Eli was involved in several major plotlines, including having an affair with his cousin Debbie (Charley Webb) and aiding Alice’s (Ursula Holden-Gill) suicide. However, after a botched robbery in 2010, Eli left the village.
Fans have ‘worked out’ Eli’s return
Since leaving the soap opera stage, Joseph has been anything but idle. He garnered acclaim as Woody in both the This Is England film in 2006 and its subsequent TV series, earning himself BAFTA nominations in 2012 for his standout performance.
In more recent years, Joseph took on a new venture as creator and lead actor in the Sky comedy series Brassic, which premiered in 2019 and quickly became Sky’s most immensely popular comedy in seven years, featuring co-stars such as Michelle Keegan and Ryan Sampson.

Despite it being 15 years since his last appearance on screen, fans are clamouring for the return of his character Eli. On an Emmerdale fan page on Facebook, speculation abounds about a comeback, with one viewer speculating: “I wonder if she is with Eli. Would be good to have him back.”
Others concurred with the sentiment, with another chiming in: “Yes absolutely bring Eli back and he can save the day.” A third fan echoed their enthusiasm, writing: “I hope so. Eli was a great actor, and a lovable rogue!”
